barbara allen

the fairest barbara allen and sweet william just couldn't get it together.
he loved her so, she held out on him.
i think she was overwhelmed by her love for him.
the lyrics of this traditional irish ballad describe a love that lived after their deaths

the last two of many verses-

they buried her in the old churchyard
they buried him in the choir
and from his grave grew a red red rose
from her grave a green briar

they grew and grew to the steeple top
til they could grow no higher
and there they twined in a true love's knot
red rose around green briar

this red rose variety is called "courageous" and has a wonderful rose berry fragrance.
