orange crush

dahlias, gomphrena, roses, jewel weed, nasturtiums, tomato

this is jewel weed.  the blossoms look like little orchids.
i wasn't sure how they would hold up, but they look even better 24 hours after having been picked.

i don't know what these seed pods are, but they have a pretty shape and orange blossoms
the rose is called the impressionist
just for fun, here are some jewels

embers

yay!  at last i have a few dahlias!
mine are just coming into bloom today.  end of august.
so many obstacles this spring, and the wait has been a major frustration.
picking these this morning was wonderful.
and the other side

the red berries are the invasive russian olive
and here are pokeberry buds.  i love the stamens
the stem was short on this dahlia, so i had to tuck it right here in the middle
it is called honeymoon

dahlias, zinnias, pokeberry, russian olive, celosia, gomphrena, rose hips, cherry tomato

field tender

when he spoke, what tender words he used!
so softly, that like little flakes of feathered snow,
they melted as they fell.
