why is it that i never before noticed the amazing mechanics of rhubarb?
it starts with the reddish covering of the leaf poking up out of the ground.
then the tightly packed leaf emerges,
and i find the pleating to be marvelous.
and wonder if i could ever have the patience to do a watercolor of this stage of leaf?
anyway, back to the rhubarb...
gradually, the pleating unfolds.
and guess what? the leaves are heart shaped.
i have been thinking that if you need a border plant to cover lots of space,
and it is situated in full sun,
that rhubarb might be an interesting selection.
that is, until you harvest it for your pie!
