pinking up

the buds are cracking and the petals are unfurling.
this clematis above is one of those nameless ones from lowes.
it should have been added to my compost long ago because it doesn't hold its color well, and i don't care for its long petals.
but since she's always the first to bloom of the big flowers, i keep her.
 biannual sweet williams.
louise odier rose, and some old fashioned columbine.

and these are the very first of my peonies.
i chose to not disbud this year.  i couldn't bring myself to do it.
don't you love how when the first petals begin opening how the flower looks all floppy?

little bits

these bunches of lilies of the valley in tissue paper looked and smelled sweet in the cart.
the backs of their heads are attention-worthy.
graceful deutzia.  i have this bunch in my cooler in hopes of making an arrangement one day soon.
these large batchelor-button type flowers are centaurea montana.
every year they come back, despite being in a part of my garden that i never water and is completely overrun with weeds.
pictured here with some grape vine.
i picked a few branches of the pea-flowering honey locust to put in my cart as a back drop.
it is like white wisteria with sweet fragrance, but has some thorns.
i was brushing these odd bits of lilacs to go in my compost, and then experienced a wave of regret;
all winter i long for something just like this....scrap or whatever!
so here's a photo of this moment in spring.
and last, some of my rhubarb crop.
i have 4 plants, and cut 3 times this amount today.
the shortest batch here is about a foot in length.
i used the leaves just for this photo, and removed them before taking some to the cart so no one keels over!

scituate farmers market

this afternoon i got things bunched up for the farmers market.
saturday morning from 9 til 12 at the elementary school parking lot in north scituate, ri.
i heard there's gonna be a taco truck tomorrow!!!
anyway, here's sweet rocket and hay-scented fern.

these are pink woodland hyacinths.

coral bells above, weigela below.

and i'll be serving up some lilies of the valley, and the last of the tulips.

and i still have lots of lilacs!  hope to see you there!

with the angels

we are having a rainy day, finally!
angelique tulips with spanish hyacinths, some spring green tulips round the edge,
some bleeding heart and lilies of the valley.
i used some rose campion for foliage; i like its soft greyness and wavy form.
not sure of the name of the pink tulip.

tulip time

picking like mad this evening for the mother's day weekend, and we have first farmer's market on saturday, too!
this batch of tulips is so heartwarming...
and my jake, master cameraman took these photos for me.
these are not arranged - just as i bundled them up in my arms after i snipped off the lower leaves.
looking forward to a full day of arranging bunches tomorrow!

this is my phone camera shot.
